Two editions, one terust

Same terminal, built two ways. Pick the network edition only if you want to reach your terminals from your phone.

ter.exe — the standard build. No networking of its own; the security posture is absolute. This is the free download and what most people want.

tern.exe — the network edition. Everything in ter.exe, plus a Pro-only remote bridge: pair a phone by QR code and view or drive your terminal tabs over an end-to-end-encrypted channel (LAN first, anywhere later). It is off by default and opens no connection until you switch it on. Encrypted pairing ships in a coming update; the edition itself downloads here so you can be ready early. (Remote mirrors terminals, not RDP/VNC windows.)

terust has a mascot, and your license is what feeds it.

Use terust free forever and the family stays out of your way for the first two weeks. After that, an unlicensed terust will occasionally — at most once a day — open on a hungry ASCII kitten. Any key or click dismisses it; B buys cat food (this page). The family evolves the longer it goes unfed: first the kitten, then mom shows up, and eventually the whole clowder is at your prompt. It never gates a feature, never nags licensed users, and never phones home — it's a cat, not a DRM.

Dog person? Fully accommodated: set "mascot_pet": "dog" in settings.json and the puppy pack takes over — same family, same stages, same empty bowls.

How the license works — honestly

It's the Sublime Text model. Every key works forever on the builds released inside its window: a $5 key activates every build shipped in the year after your purchase, and those builds keep working for as long as you care to run them. Builds released after your window ends simply run as Free until you decide a renewal is worth it — nothing you saved, configured, or connected is ever locked away. Verification is fully offline: the key is checked by math on your machine, not by a server, so there is no account to create and nothing to phone home to.

After your purchase

Once your payment is confirmed, here's what happens next:

    Your key arrives by email

    Your license key is sent to the address you used at checkout within minutes. Keep the email — the key is all there is; no account, no login.

  2. 2

    Paste it into terust

    Open the tray menu, choose Enter license key, and paste. terust verifies the key offline and unlocks Pro on the spot.

  3. 3

    Update whenever you like

    Download new builds from GitHub Releases as they ship. Every build released inside your key's window activates with the same key, forever.
